Make Your Goals Smart

When it comes to making healthy behavior changes, such as increasing intake of fruits & veggies, physical movement, staying hydrated, in order to set yourself up for success, it’s helpful to break down your overall goal into small, specific S.M.A.R.T. goals.

  • Measurable

    Get specific. Make sure your goals are measurable, meaning you can track them with your coach.

  • Attainable

    Make sure you make your goal something that’s actually achievable.

  • Realistic

    Make sure your goal is realistic. Set a goal that works with your schedule and day to day activities.

  • Time-Bound

    Make it specific – add numbers in! For example, “I will add in a vegetable to my lunch every day for the next 2 weeks.


  • If you want to eat more vegetables: “I will eat one serving of vegetables at dinner three times a week.
  • If you are consistently eating more vegetables: “I will eat onevegetables from the green and red groups this week.
  • It you are trying to eat out less often: “I will pack my lunch three times this week.

Track Your Progress

You and your coach will track your progress to see areas of improvement and areas where you are excelling. It also helps you to stick with your plan.

  • Use a notebook to keep track of the things you eat.
  • Pay attention to how you feel. Do you notice any difference when you are eating better or when you eat poorly?
  • Notice if your food preferences change. You will find that you don’t like some of the foods you used to eat and learn to like foods you may not have liked before.
  • Expect to encounter some obstacles. An evening out with friends, a vacation or other event. By identifying obstacles ahead of time you can plan what you will do to deal with them.

Get Support From Your Coach

The more support you have, the easier it will be to change your eating habits. Your coach will help you start in the right direction. Your coach will help keep you motivated to keep up the good work. Your coach will give you support when you don’t feel like staying with your eating plan and boost your morale when you need help.
